Schaumburg Youth Jazz Orchestra

Open to 8th - 12th grade musicians (by audition) on saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, drums, and select percussion. Students should be confident reading in various key signatures, performing in different jazz styles, and playing expressively as part of the ensemble and as soloists. Rhythm section players should be skilled in comping, groove playing, and improvisation.
SYJO performs authentic big band and educational jazz repertoire, giving students the chance to develop ensemble skills, stylistic versatility, and improvisation in a fun, challenging, and supportive setting.
Rehearsals: Mondays, 6:45 pm - 8:45 pm.

- Jingle Bell Swing - Wednesday, December 17 at 7 p.m.
- Schaumburg Youth Jazz Orchestra at the Maggie Atcher Theatre
- Spring Concert- Sunday, April 26 at 12:30 p.m.
- Schaumburg Youth Jazz Orchestra at the Maggie Atcher Theatre
AUDITION SIGNUP & INSTRUCTIONS
SYJO is currently taking new students thru rehearsal sit-in auditions Monday nights 6:45pm - 8:45pm. Let us know you're coming by registering here and emailing Donna Robertelli at drobertelli@schaumburg.com.
SYJO Tuition for 2025/26 Season:
- Tuition for 2025-26 is $500
- Tuition includes a $25 family donation to Prairie Center Arts Foundation (only one donation per family).
- Families with more than one child enrolled in the program receive a $25 discount for each additional child after one child is paid in full.
- Installment plans, Financial Assistance, and Scholarships available.
- All members receive a youth orchestra t-shirt (included with tuition).
