The Schaumburg Choral Program was established in 2013 to provide an in-house choir to complement the Village of Schaumburg’s 25-year-old Schaumburg Youth Orchestra program. It began with the Schaumburg Youth Choir, a high school-level ensemble with 15 members.
In 2016, the program expanded with the Schaumburg Children’s Chorus, welcoming singers in grade 3 and up with an initial membership of 27. To bridge the age and skill gap between the two groups, Cantabile was introduced in 2018 for middle school students. That same year, the ensembles were renamed: Kammerchor (high school), Cantabile (middle school), and Prelude (children).
In the winter of 2021, Kammerchor expanded to include adult singers and was renamed the Schaumburg Choral Artists (SCA). The following season, SCA2 was created as a feeder group for high school students developing their vocal skills.
Today, the Schaumburg Choral Program features four ensembles with 125 singers ranging from grade 3 through adulthood. These groups perform individually and together throughout the season, including an annual holiday concert with the Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra. SCA also collaborates with the orchestra for an annual symphonic choral masterwork, with past performances including Brahms’ Schicksalslied, Rutter’s Requiem, and Hagenberg’s Illuminare. Prelude and Cantabile frequently perform at community events such as tree lighting ceremonies, school functions, and retirement centers.
In the summer of 2024, following their third season, the Schaumburg Choral Artists embarked on an overseas concert tour of Scotland and Ireland.
All ensembles rehearse and perform at Schaumburg’s Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts.
